KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 — In a strategic move to amplify regional investments, Selangor is fortifying partnerships with prominent investment agencies and organisations in Asean, said state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han.

In his opening remarks at the launching ceremony of the 7th Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2023, Ng highlighted the testament to this collaboration through the 3rd Selangor Industrial Park Expo (SPARK), which stands as one of the primary events of the summit and set to feature core industrial park players and suppliers from both within the country and the Asean region.

“In the spirit of promoting Asean as an investment destination, Invest Selangor has started collaborating with other investment promotion agencies in Malaysia and Asean countries to promote our counterparts’ industrial parks.

“This reaffirmed SIBS as the only industrial park expo in this region,” he said to a crowd of 2,000 trade attendees, comprising senior government functionaries, industry stakeholders, and diplomatic delegations.

Ng reiterated that this year’s edition of SIBS is the largest yet, emphasising Selangor’s aspirations to emerge as a leading investment hotspot in Asean.

“With a total of 328 trade buyers from 26 countries that we are hosting, in addition to trade visitors and other hosted delegations arriving today, I firmly believe that together, we are able to achieve our 2023 target of RM1.5bil worth of negotiated transaction value over the next four days.

“There are boundless opportunities for mutual growth and shared success within Selangor and Asean. Together, we can chart a prosperous future where innovation, collaboration, and determination pave the way for a brighter tomorrow,” he said.

Ng said the convergence of six major events under the annual trade summit demonstrates the state’s commitment to offering a comprehensive ecosystem that covers a diverse range of sectors.

He said the summit also includes the 9th Selangor International Expo, focusing on the F&B sector, the 7th Selangor Asean Business Conference, which delves into Asean trade, the 8th Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention, spotlighting urban and digital transformations, the 4th Selangor R&D and Innovation Expo, emphasising research breakthroughs, and the 9th Selangor International Expo, centred on the medical industry.

Running from October 19 to 22, the summit features 1,006 trade booths across eight expo halls and seven conference halls at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Five parallel events will also be featured, namely the Selangor International Culinary Festival, Selangor International Coffee Week, Malaysia International Tea and Coffee Expo, Selangor International Healthcare Conference, and the Selangor International Business Summit Invitational Golf Tournament.
