SHAH ALAM, Oct 6 — The house-to-house collection of recyclables in Shah Alam has been expanded to cover more areas via a phased implementation.
Deputy mayor Cheremi Tarman said the collection conducted in landed properties has now entered its fourth phase, involving 60,000 houses.
“Among the locations involved are Seksyen U8, Seksyen U16, Seksyen U10, and Seksyen 31-35.
“We will proceed to other locations in stages,” he said in his speech during a memorandum of understanding handover ceremony between Shah Alam City Council and Nestle Malaysia and KPT Recycles Sdn Bhd at MBSA Convention Centre in Seksyen 13, here, yesterday.
State executive councillor for local government Ng Suee Lim was present to officiate the event.
Cheremi said residents can use the household and residential mobile application 3R Famili to receive notification on recycling schedules and track of their recycling activities.
Meanwhile, for low-cost apartments, Cheremi said MBSA, together with Nestle Malaysia and KPT Recycles will provide ‘Re-Rosta’ bins, which he described as a dry waste collection innovation.
He explained that the bins are meant to facilitate residents in high-rise buildings in practising waste separation without requiring them to go to recycling centres.
“We also conduct First Mile Recycle programmes, an innovation on dry waste collection in traditional villages under MBSA’s jurisdiction.
“This programme has helped increase the awareness on recycling activities among villagers,” he said.
