SHAH ALAM, Oct 17 — The upcoming Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2023 has the potential to draw massive investments and create numerous job opportunities for residents of the state, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Describing SIBS as a state flagship event, Amirudin said this year’s summit is targeting RM1.5 billion in potential negotiated sales value, with primary focus on five industries.

Namely, they are electric and electronics; food and beverage processing; digital investment; logistics services; and transportation goods and machinery.

“We will take full advantage of Selangor’s position as an Asean gateway, as well as the five core industries in the state presently,” he posted on X today.

SIBS 2023 will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from October 19-22, with over 1,000 booths set up comprising both local and international exhibitors.

This summit is expected to welcome some 50,000 trade visitors and carries the theme ’Selangor: The Gateway to Asean’.

“Do come and take the opportunity to expand your business network and potential,” Amirudin said.

Previously, state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han had said that the summit demonstrates Selangor’s proactive strategy to magnify its regional economic influence.

He said the Selangor government’s decision to host this event complements its vision to cultivate and foster trade partnerships.

Ng believes the summit will serve as a strategic platform to enhance the state’s branding, with its primary focus being to accentuate Selangor’s integral role in Malaysia and its potential as a premier gateway to the Asean community.

The event will feature six primary segments, namely the ninth Selangor International Expo Food and Beverage; eighth Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention; fourth Selangor Research and Development Innovation Expo; ninth Selangor International Expo; seventh Selangor Asean Business Conference; and third Selangor Industrial Park Expo.
