Thai police nab four for selling pistol, ammo to teen gunman

BANGKOK, Oct 5 — The police arrested four men, including a father and his son, who were suspected of selling a modified pistol and ammunition to a teenage gunman who went on a shooting rampage at Bangkok’s Siam Paragon Mall which caused two people dead and five others injured.

The Bangkok Post reported the Provincial Police Region 9 arrested the father-and-son duo, aged 45 and 22, in the southern province of Yala at 1am (local time) on Thursday.

“The two men were being taken to Bangkok for questioning,” it said.

Thai media also reported that two other men, aged 31 and 41, were arrested in Bangkok.

The 31-year-old man reportedly sold and delivered bullets to the teenager.

Police seized illegal firearms, firearm modification equipment and livestreaming equipment at the 41-year-old man’s house.

On Wednesday, the 14-year-old teen faced five charges, including premeditated murder and illegally possessing a firearm.

According to a local media report, a police investigation found the teenager purchased a modified pistol online for 16,000 baht and rounds of bullets for 1,000 baht.

The teenager, who has a history of mental health problems, is undergoing a psychiatric test to determine whether he is fit to stand trial.

He allegedly shot dead a Chinese and Myanmar national and injured five others inside Siam Paragon Mall at 4.20pm on Tuesday (October 3). The injured victims comprise one Laotian, one Chinese national, and three Thai nationals.

Police said he used a modified blank-firing pistol to fire live rounds.
