MOSCOW, Oct 5 — Thai authorities will review all the laws concerning the use of weapons and their possession following the recent shooting in the shopping mall by a teenager, reported Sputnik.
On Tuesday (October 3), two people were killed and five others injured by a 14-year-old gunman at the Siam Paragon Mall in Bangkok. The teenager claimed hallucinations to explain his crime.
“From now on, people should not be allowed to carry guns around at their own will. There should be no instances of people venturing out with a firearm to settle conflicts,” Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul was quoted by the Bangkok Post newspaper today as saying.
He added that only authorised persons should be permitted to carry guns in public.
On Wednesday (October 4), the Thai Foreign Ministry said it would create an emergency command centre to coordinate its actions with the embassies of foreign countries in Thailand to deal with dangerous incidents that could harm foreign nationals.
In 2022, there were 2,804 gun-related deaths in Thailand, and, with a firearm death rate of 3.91 per 100,000 people, the country ranked 15th globally, the Thai media reported.
