Bukit Gantang MP latest to back Anwar, tells Muhyiddin, Ismail to cooperate

KUALA LUMPUR – The opposition bloc was given a rude shock in the Dewan Rakyat today after another one of its MPs openly declared support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Bukit Gantang lawmaker Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal made the declaration when raising to ask a supplementary question on the Malaysia Madani concept promoted by the Unity Government during the Prime Minister’s Question Time.

He is the fifth Bersatu MP to express support for Anwar after Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli).

Addressing the lower House today, Abu Hussin said his decision to support Anwar is to ensure they can work together to address the issue of rising cost of living and improve the economy.

“To all opposition MPs, let’s negotiate properly with the government, as was the practice during Bera’s (Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob) tenure as prime minister.

“To the prime minister, are you ready to welcome MPs with experience, expertise and ability to help improve the economy? I am ready to assist the government in creating a Madani community and addressing the high cost of living.

“With this declaration, Bukit Gantang extends its support to the prime minister and the Unity Government coalition,” he said to rousing cheers from the government bench.

Earlier, Abu Hussin also appealed to former prime ministers, Pagoh MP Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Bera MP Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, to collaborate with Anwar in efforts to revitalise the economy.

“I implore Pagoh (Muhyiddin) and Bera (Ismail), as ex-prime ministers, to join forces with Tambun (Anwar) in fostering a Madani society,” he said

In response, Anwar expressed his gratitude to Abu Hussin, emphasising that such solidarity among political leaders is vital for addressing the country’s economic and social challenges effectively.
