DOSM publishes My Local Stats 2022

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 27 — The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) published the My Local Stats 2022, the sixth of its series that began in 2017, integrating social and economic statistics up to the district administration level for 2020 to 2022.

My Local Stats, which serves as an important input for socio-economic development, encompasses the entire country, 13 states, three federal territories and 156 administrative districts and covers 12 social fields and eight economic fields – basic information, residents, housing, labour, income and expenses, education, health, social services, public safety, tourism, transport and recreation, internet and media social, basic facilities, gross domestic product (GDP), consumer price index, export and import, agriculture, mining and quarrying, manufacturing, construction and services.

“The availability of detailed statistics at the local level will benefit districts and the state governments in improving policies and programmes as well as the people’s socioeconomic needs,” the department said in a statement today.

The publication contains 18 new schedules at the national level, six at the state level and four at the district level in 2022.

“The publication can serve as a reference for planning at the local government level to prepare public facilities, improve social services and boost affordable housing,” the department said, adding that detailed statistics are needed to mainstream national socioeconomic targets for inclusive development and to ensure sustainable economic growth that stresses on the people’s welfare.

Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said key findings in terms of demographics reveal that the total population of Malaysia in 2022 is estimated to be around 32.7 million, with 92.4 per cent being Malaysians and 7.6 per cent non-Malaysians.

Petaling district in Selangor has the highest population in terms of district, with 2.30 million, followed by Johor Bahru, Johor with 1.72 million) and Ulu Langat, Selangor with 1.41 million, he shared.

He added that the percentage of Internet coverage in terms of households was 96 per cent in 2022, and Ulu Langat, Selangor was the district with the highest Internet coverage at 100 per cent, followed by Sepang, Selangor with 99.9 per cent and Gombak, Selangor with 99.7 per cent. Out of 156 districts, only 38 recorded less than 90 per cent Internet coverage.

In terms of labour, Klang, Selangor had the highest level of participation with 78.6 per cent, followed by Petaling, Selangor with 78.5 per cent and Beluran, Sabah with 78.3 per cent, while for social services, Johor Bahru, Johor had the highest cumulative number of registered persons with disabilities (PwD) at 44,998 people, followed by Petaling, Selangor with 32,534 people and Klang, Selangor with 19,241 people.

A total of 535,321 people in the country received aid from the Social Welfare Department, with Sabah having the highest number of recipients in 2022 at 63,932 people, followed by Johor with 54,536 people and Sarawak with 52,516 people, Mohd Uzir Mahidin said.

Housing statistics at the district level showed that Petaling, Selangor had the highest number of residences in 2022 with 715,600 units followed by Johor Bahru, Johor with 664,700 units and Ulu Langat, Selangor with 455,200 units, he added.
