SHAH ALAM, Nov 6 — The popular Subang Parade shopping mall, which was inundated by floodwater following a downpour yesterday, is operating as usual today after clean-up works by its employees and crew.
However, the lower ground floor, which was more severely affected, will only be fully operational by tomorrow, the mall’s building management company Hektar Property Services Sdn. Bhd said in a statement.
Its chief executive officer Aldela Puspa Nordin said the management is currently managing the aftermath of the unexpected flash flood caused by heavy rainfall yesterday and has been diligently working to ensure the safety and well-being of its shoppers, tenants and employees.
“The flash flood, triggered by heavy rainfall, occurred yesterday around 5pm and affected parts of the shopping centre’s lower ground floor and basement.
“While there have been no reports of injuries, Subang Parade has incurred damage to several areas, including stores, common areas and its parking facilities.”
Yesterday, several clips made rounds on social media showing water entering the mall after a downpour, with its basement parking also inundated.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said a distress call was received at 8.39pm.
Aldeda said the management is strongly dedicated to safeguarding the safety and welfare of its shoppers, tenants and employees, and that its team is focused on reducing any business interruptions and expediting the restoration of the shopping centre.
“The incident has been reported to relevant local authorities, including the Fire and Rescue Department and the Subang Jaya City Council, for investigation and to prevent similar unfortunate events from recurring in the future.”
