Mass communications graduates still in demand despite AI tech advancements

SHAH ALAM, Nov 23 — Mass communications graduates are still in demand despite the widespread use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, said Universiti Teknologi Mara’s (UiTM) Communication and Media Studies Faculty dean Prof Abd Rasid Abd Rahman.

He said the majority of UiTM’s graduates managed to secure jobs six months after graduation.

For this year, UiTM has produced 41 master’s degree graduates and 459 bachelor’s degree graduates, and the faculty’s graduates’ employability stood at 90 per cent.

“We talk about AI taking over, but this technology cannot stand alone without human assistance, meaning it still requires experts to implement what AI can do in the context of media,” he said at UiTM’s 98th Convocation today.

Meanwhile, Amirul Haziq Roslan, 24, the recipient of a bachelor’s degree in Instructional and Training Communication and the Vice Chancellor’s Award, said the field of study offers huge employment opportunities, adding this is proven when he managed to secure a job at a company after completing his studies.

“In the past, this field focused on being in front of and behind the camera, but it has evolved to include creating software, designing websites, applications and animations. It is an extensive field,” he said.
