Mitra allocates RM11.46 mln for Indian youth TVET training

SUBANG JAYA, Nov 2 — The Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra), under the Prime Minister’s Department, has allocated RM11.46 million this year for the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme to empower 940 Indian youths.

Its Special Task Force Committee chairman, Datuk R. Ramanan, said the training will focus on welding, automation, electrical, automotive, computer, logistics, food and beverage, drone operation, and tourism.

The Sungai Buloh MP said there are 30 programmes involving 28 certified training providers under the Department of Skills Development (JPK).

“I urge Indian youths to respond to the government’s call to improve themselves with skills training based on industry needs.

“Take advantage of this opportunity to improve your socio-economic status. Make the most of it, and do not ever waste this opportunity,” he said when officiating the Electrified Automation Advancement Programme (EAAP) at Taman Perindustrian USJ1 today.

According to Ramanan, Mitra is sponsoring EAAP to help Indian youths build skills in automated industries that use electrical technology (mechatronics), and 250 youths will be trained, for a cost of RM2.875 million.

For each individual who follows the EAAP training, Mitra’s investment is as much as RM11,500, and the training will last for 28 days, involving theoretical and practical sessions.

EAAP provides an opportunity for Indian youths from the B40 group to have a level three of the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) skills certificate from the United Kingdom and have the opportunity to earn an income using technical skills related to electric vehicles (EVs).

He said 250 participants who followed the EAAP would undergo training under SG Education Group Berhad, involving four locations — 100 students will undergo training in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, 100 in Penang, and 50 in Johor.

Speaking to the press afterwards, Ramanan said after completing the programme and obtaining a certificate, EAAP participants are eligible to receive a minimum income of RM3,000, and job opportunities will be arranged by SG Education Group.

Mitra and SG Education will select the participants for the EAAP based on online applications, with the specified conditions being participants from the B40 group and those interested in the EV field.

Meanwhile, SG Education Group, in a statement, said EAAP is a comprehensive talent development initiative, combining the fields of EV and industrial automation.

This programme aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge in automation technology and the integration of EV systems into various industrial sectors.
