Monsoon season: Selangor ready to use 40 water pumps — Exco

SHAH ALAM, Nov 10 — The state government is ready to deploy 40 water pumps to any locality at risk of flooding throughout the monsoon season.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim said they would also collaborate with Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) to ensure the pumps work are in working condition.

“We (now) have many pumps; now we have 40 pumps ready to be mobilised to any (flood) locality. They include 30 (water) pumps from Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd.

“Apart from that, we have to be ready with the generators. There is no use having pumps without generators. As such, the TNB has been asked to provide mobile generators for the water pumps, which run on electricity,” he told the press after Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari tabled the 2024 Selangor Budget today.

Asked about the upgrading of the pump system in Taman Sri Muda here, Izham said the move has had a positive impact.

“The pump upgrading project for Taman Sri Muda is going smoothly, and we expect it to be completed in February next year. Once completed, the area will have nine water pumps with a total capacity of pumping out 13,000 litres of water per second.

“After that, we do not expect any more major floodings in the area. In addition, the Federal government has also approved a RM160 million allocation of for the construction of flood barriers, specifically in Section 25 (Taman Sri Muda),” he said.
