New policy to encourage owners to register illegal factories — Exco

SHAH ALAM, Nov 6 — A new policy will be drawn up next year to attract more illegal factory operators in the state to register their premises legally.

State executive councillor for local government and tourism Ng Suee Lim said the effort was made since the previous business registration initiative ended and only temporary licenses until the end of this year were given.

“I want to give unauthorised factories  a ‘booster’, but it will take some time, maybe we create a more people-friendly or dynamic ‘task force’ that can encourage these entrepreneurs to register their factories,” he said.

Earlier, he officiated at a Town Hall between the Local Government, owners and operators of unlicensed factories in the Shah Alam City Council area at the MBSA Convention Centre.

Suee Lim also reminded business owners to seriously try to register their businesses to avoid more severe penalties being imposed in the future.

“I would like to remind all operators of unauthorised factories not to take the hard work of the State Government in the context of resolving the issue of unauthorised factories.

“When the time comes, the State Government will definitely implement strict enforcement against those who disobey and do not budge, including the action of demolishing and confiscating land in accordance with Section 129 (5) (b) of the National Land Code 1965.”

According to Suee Lim, a total of 7,221 factories are operating without permission throughout Selangor since 2006 and only seven per cent have been successfully registered so far.

The difficulties with obtaining planning permissions, have been eased. However, entrepreneurs and landowners being different individuals, is one of the reasons that some factories have not been properly registered till date.
