No place for corrupt personnel in MBSA — Acting mayor

By Nas Norziela Nasbah

SHAH ALAM, Nov 16 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) always takes an uncompromising stance against corruption, said its acting mayor, Cheremi Tarman, to remind all personnel not to be embroiled in malfeasance.

This unyielding approach to graft ensures the council’s good reputation is always maintained.

“We are highly committed to ensuring the organisation continues to practise good governance and will not compromise with unethical employees who may tarnish MBSA’s name,” he said during the Integrity Day celebration at the MBSA Convention Centre today.

Some 800 MBSA personnel took their Corruption-Free Pledge at the event, which was also attended by Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission director Datuk Alias Salim.

Cheremi said the pledge is intended to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of integrity among public servants.

“This (anti-graft pledge) can ensure a more efficient, productive, and ethical workforce capable of establishing control mechanisms to ensure compliance with regulations or policies.”

Meanwhile, Cheremi noted several disciplinary cases involving MBSA staff, supposedly due to being too comfortable in their positions.

“The management is always monitoring. However, to oversee all 1,700 employees is an impossible task. As such, it is better always to remind each other, regardless if you are permanent or contract staff.

“What is more crucial is for the employees to carry out their duties with full integrity. If this is ingrained within them, wrongdoings or violations of work ethics are less likely to occur,” he said.
