PM: Glorify nation by instilling noble values via family institution

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 4 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said a country can become great if it starts instilling noble values beginning with the family institution.

When launching the National Family Month Celebration (BKK) 2023 today, he said the inculcation of noble values was the basis for developing a Madani society and country.

“A Madani country can be nurtured and developed beginning from the family institution,” Anwar said, adding this will enable the Malaysian community to be imbued with love and compassion from that stage onwards.

“We have been moved by what is happening in the world now, as seen daily in the atrocities and violence in Gaza, because we are trained to know compassion, love, and the meaning of humanity,” Anwar said.

If the inculcation of moral and humanistic values was ignored in efforts to develop the country, it could lead to rampant misdeeds, corruption, and irregularities.

“Sometimes, when developing a country, these values are not emphasised, with greater focus frequently given to the question of development, economy and employment. This is a sign of decline or the beginning of a country’s decline,” he said.

The success in building the family institution would also serve as a benchmark for the capability of leaders, including ministers, as a broken family makes it difficult to develop society.

Anwar also expressed appreciation to Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri for her commitment to fighting for the status of women and children in Malaysia.

“Based on Nancy’s example, I believe the spirit of a harmonious family can be instilled because the KPWKM (Women, Family and Community Development Ministry) leadership has an extraordinarily high commitment and dedication,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nancy said the Kasih Madani Special Award, introduced in conjunction with BKK 2023, is to recognise employers who have implemented family-friendly practices and policies in their agencies or companies.

The BKK2023 celebration, themed ‘Keluarga Harmoni, Negara Madani’, was organised by KPWKM to honour the family institution as an important platform for building a stable and prosperous society.
