PUTRAJAYA, Nov 26 — Unity Government parties must maintain victory in the next General Election (GE) to ensure that the agenda planned for the good of the people can continue to be implemented, says Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar.
She said the momentum should begin with the Sabah State Election which could be called as early as next year.
“Our first (GE) victory was snatched away through the Sheraton Move (in 2020) and this victory (establishment of the Unity Government) was achieved through collaboration.
“So, we cannot continue with our agenda if we do not remain victorious in the next election, including the one in Sabah,” she said during the winding-up session at the 2023 Keadilan Annual National Congress at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here, today.
Nurul Izzah, who is also the chairman of the Keadilan State Leadership Council (MPN) of Perlis, Kedah and Penang, said party members should also prevent the culture of slander, not only from outside but also within PKR, as it could ‘kill’ the success of the party built up over the years.
“If we can have good faith in the opposing party, why not with each other?,” she said.
Nurul Izzah said Keadilan’s struggle for the past 25 years was also in line with Islamic teachings that fought for the rights of the people and rejected tyranny.
Meanwhile, Keadilan vice president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who is also the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change, reminded Keadilan leadership and machinery not to lose hope in winning the hearts of voters on the East Coast in the next GE.
He said the results of the six state elections held in August should not be used as an excuse to marginalise voters in the East Coast states.
“I urge all of us to think about the long term, we haven’t won there yet, but let there not be leaders who give up and look down on those in the East Coast,” he said.
He also expressed confidence that the Unity Government would be able to gain the support of voters in the East Coast if it could prioritise solving the flood issues in those states.
Meanwhile, Keadilan vice president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari who is also Selangor Menteri Besar said the Unity Government should firmly implement policies and reforms and not be bothered by criticisms.
He said the unity model would continue to be strengthened in Selangor and Pahang as Anwar was the first leader in history to successfully gather 18 parties to collaborate.
Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, who is also Keadilan vice president and Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar said every initiative outlined by the Unity Government was in line with the party’s goals, and that strengthening communication was key to forming a positive perspective.
