SHAH ALAM, Nov 11 — The RM1,000 cash incentives for Selangor residents who pursue their studies at public and private higher education institutions will be continued for the next year.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the Higher Learning Institute Entry Reward (HPIPT), with a RM3 million allocation, is targeted at families with a monthly income of RM5,000 and below.
The state government is also committed to continuing the Selangor State Scholarship Fund (TKWBNS) with a RM9 million allocation.
“The state government remains dedicated to extending this program, ensuring Selangor’s children can pursue their studies at top-tier global universities.
“The loan and scholarship programs offered have benefited approximately 29,199 people since 1985 until September, at a financial cost of RM421.5 million,” he said when tabling the 2024 Selangor Budget yesterday.
Amirudin added the state government aspires to assist 2,500 students in the coming year via Basic University Fee Assistance (Bayu).
The initiative will help families from the M40 (middle-income), B40 (low-income), and B10 (income below RM2,500) groups.
Universiti Selangor (Unisel), as the implementing agency, will facilitate the basic fee assistance, ranging from RM500 to RM1,000.
“With this initiative, it can reduce the financial constraint in pursuing studies at a higher level,” he said.
