AMPANG JAYA, Dec 18 — A total of 240 various types of trees have been planted in the Rumah Pangsa AU2 community garden in Taman Keramat since 2015, said Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) President Ani Ahmad.

She said the dedicated efforts of Rumah Pangsa AU2’s Neighbourhood Watch have been recognised when it won third place in the Selangor Strata Green Area Award last month.

“This community garden is one of 52 under MPAJ’s administration since 2015, in collaboration with the Selangor State Agriculture Department.

“The plants include herbs like king’s salad, ginger flower, lemongrass, and fruit trees including jackfruit and mango. It also includes various popular herbs like Tongkat Ali and Kacip Fatimah.

“The planting of various types of trees, including rice, aims to develop the community garden into an agrotourism and agricultural education hub,” Ani said.

She was speaking during the working visit to the AU2 community garden, where she accompanied Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu on his visit.

Meanwhile, Ani added that MPAJ successfully garnered eight awards at the 2023 Selangor Green Area Awards, organised by the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) last month.

“This achievement serves to motivate us in continuing to preserve strata green areas in the areas under MPAJ’s administration,” she said.

The local authority was awarded RM22,500, as well as winning the Best Local Authority Special Award.

Four community gardens received awards, including the Pegaga Ampang community garden with two awards (Champion, Green Area Innovation), the Pangsapuri Permai Putra community garden (Sustainable Living City), and the AU2 Keramat community garden (third place).

Similarly, the Taman Keramat Permai community garden, the Ukay Indah community garden, and the Pandan Jaya community garden, received consolation prizes.
