GOMBAK, Dec 3 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has urged the people of Selangor to preserve the state’s harmony that was achieved through the unity of various ethnicities, religions, and cultures.

The Gombak MP said this is crucial seeing that there are certain irresponsible quarters that are looking to incite racial tension and threaten the peace long enjoyed by the people of Selangor.

“We cannot allow elements of extremism or the use of sentiments to ignite tension among us. I notice that lately, there have been attempts to fuel these tensions.

“This brings no benefit at all, particularly as our country has a constitution and every race and religion is protected by law,” he said at the Gombak parliament’s Deepavali open house last night.

The programme held at Dataran Sungai Tua here was also attended by state executive councillor and Taman Templer assemblyman Anfaal Saari and Amirudin’s political secretary Rahim Kasdi.

Earlier, Amirudin spent time mingling with the some 5,000 attendees of various races who attended the open house while enjoying traditional Indian food.

He also distributed duit raya to over 200 children at the event.
