SHAH ALAM, Dec 7 — The Department of Irrigation and Drainage added a pump to the water lock at Sungai Pinang, Port Klang as a measure to prevent flooding in Kampung Tradisi Pulau Indah.
Port Klang assemblyman Azmizam Zaman Huri said the Department of Irrigation and Drainage and Central Spectrum (M) Sdn Bhd also lifted the temporary ban on the construction of a new water lock in the Orang Asli village.
Azmizam Zaman Huri added that the contractor was also tasked with dredging and deepening the river in the estuary to facilitate the flow of water from the village’s drainage system to the sea.
“This is one of the efforts to reduce the risk of flooding in Kampung Tradisi Pulau Indah following a series of heavy rains last night that fell for three hours resulting in 105mm of rainfall.
“I thank the Department of Irrigation and Drainage and its Klang unit for working together with my office to overcome this flood issue. I would also like to thank the Klang Municipal Council, which monitors the drainage system and drains in the Pulau Indah area,” he said via a video on TikTok.
Azmizam also advised the residents of Port Klang, especially those in Kampung Tradisi Pulau Indah, to be more aware of the possibility of floods following the forecast of heavy rain every day.
“I hope residents take precautions and be careful because heavy rain is expected to fall every day and there is a possibility of flooding.
“The measures taken by said the Department of Irrigation and Drainage are to try to overcome the flood problem, but everyone has to work together and be vigilant. Together we can mitigate these flood disasters,” he said.
