Halal Malaysia official portal back in operation on December 13 — Jakim

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15 — The Halal Malaysia official portal resumed operations on Dec 13 after issues were resolved following a data breach detected on Dec 9.

Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) director-general Datin Paduka Hakimah Mohd Yusoff said she had directed the information and communication technology (ICT) team to conduct an investigation and prepare a comprehensive report on the matter.

“I have directed Jakim’s ICT team to address any loopholes that could be exploited by hackers to breach Halal Malaysia official portal…including suggesting proactive measures to enhance portal security and prevent a recurrence.

“Fortunately, this incident did not result in any data leakage,” she said in a statement today.

She added that the completion of the new infrastructure, including servers, operating systems, and upgraded applications to the latest version, is anticipated before January 2024.

Jakim acknowledges users’ concerns about the current security features on the Halal Malaysia portal, she added.
