GOMBAK, Dec 21 — A total of RM100.35 million in assessment tax was collected by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) as of November 30, according to its president Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi.

This accounts for 87.43 per cent of the RM114.78 million targeted for collection this year.

“As for assessment tax arrears, RM8.96 million has been collected, which is 74.67 per cent of the total arrears of RM12 million,” he said during a council meeting today.

MPS’ online tax payment campaign via the MyMPS, Lazada, Shopee, and Cepat mobile apps will continue moving forward.

Meanwhile, Yazid revealed that up to November 30, 31,303 arrest warrants have been or will be issued by MPS to property owners who have failed to pay their assessment taxes.

Owners with arrears of RM200 or more will have their properties confiscated seven days after the warrant is delivered unless full payment is made.

“MPS issued the arrest warrants after issuing a notice for late payment on October 15.

“So far, 13,340 warrants have been submitted to property owners, and the rest will be issued before December 31,” he said.

Yazir urged the public to settle any assessment tax arrears promptly to avoid the seizure of their properties.

MPS has already issued early assessment tax bills for the January 2024 term period, and those who make early payments will be eligible to receive an umbrella as a souvenir.
