BANGKOK, Dec 27 — At least six people have died and nearly 70,000 households affected by the floods in five provinces of southern Thailand.
Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department (DDPM) director-general Chaiwat Junthirapong said 68,941 households in 32 districts in five southern provinces — Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, Satun, and Songkhla — have been affected by the floods.
Narathiwat was the worst hit, with 39,604 households in 457 villages within 13 districts affected. In Yala, 18,340 households across 298 villages in seven districts are experiencing floods.
Pattani has 8,360 affected households, while Satun and Songkhla have 1,801 and 836 households impacted, respectively.
AFP reported that six people, including an 89-year-old woman and a toddler, were killed, while rescue teams continue to search for another person who remains missing due to the flooding in Narathiwat.
Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, during a visit to flood-stricken Narathiwat yesterday, vowed swift government support.
He demanded immediate action from local agencies to deliver emergency supplies and financial aid to flood victims while also directing efforts to tackle the ongoing flooding situation.
