No significant soil movement detected in Puchong — Police

PUCHONG, Dec 18 — No significant soil movement has been detected in the landslide area at Jalan Wawasan 3/9 and Jalan Wawasan 3/14, even after the third day of the incident.

Serdang district police chief ACP A.A. Anbalagan said there was some water retention at the bottom area of the landslide and some little movement at the trees and tarred road in the area.

If there was any soil movement, it was likely due to the vibrations when the sheet piling was driven into the ground.

“The vibration from the sheet piling may cause unpacked soil to come loose,” he said to the press at the Incident Control Post today, adding that wire-cutting work at the road along the incident area was carried out to allow the easy installation of sheet piling, with six being driven in so far today.

Meanwhile, Petaling District and Land officer Rahilah Rahmat said the Geosciences and Mineral Department and the Public Works Department (Slope and Forensics Division) will continue to monitor the location.

An affected resident, Lai Seong Yik, 48, who has stayed in the area for over 30 years, said he rushed back from China yesterday after being told that his house was hit by the landslide by the Fire and Rescue Department.

“There has not been a landslide since I stayed here; this is the first time. Temporarily, I will stay with my relatives,” he said.

Fellow resident Low Mee Yeng, 69, voiced her concerns over the safety of her family, who all live several houses away from the houses hit by the landslide.

“Water supply has been cut, and electricity is intermittent at best,” she said.

Checks by Bernama at the incident location revealed no new instructions were issued to other residents to evacuate their homes, and piling work was continuing as usual.

On Saturday (December 16), 29 residents of nine terrace houses in Taman Wawasan Puchong were instructed to evacuate for safety reasons after a landslide hit the area nearby.
