SHAH ALAM, Dec 31 — Selangor have emerged overall champions of the first season of the Malaysia Esports Champions Tour tournament on Saturday.

They defeated teams from 15 other states and federal territories to be crowned winners, Sinar Harian reported.

According to the local Malay daily, the six-day tournament from December 25-30 was meant to provide an enriching experience for all participants who were involved in the Malaysia Esports Champions Tour programme organised earlier.

Chiefly, it is aimed at offering the participants the feeling and atmosphere of contesting in a national-level competition.

The tournament is the second phase of the tour that took place nationwide over the past two months.

Sinar Harian reported that the tournament that concluded yesterday was participated by Mobile Legends: Bang Bang teams from across the country, and was held in person at the National Sports Council headquarters in Bukit Jalil.

Other than e-sports, it also featured a seven-a-side football tournament participated by the same group.

Event organiser, Mohd Syazwan Mohd Hanafie, said the tournament had succeeded in achieving its objectives.

“We strive to produce new champions who will go on to become future professional esports players and represent the country in international events.

“Thank God, we have completed this championship, and I feel that it has successfully achieved the expected objectives to cultivate new champions who will become professional esports players in the future,” he was quoted as saying.
