Selangor eyes future partnerships with Canada

SHAH ALAM, Dec 15 — Selangor is eyeing potential future partnerships with Canada in some of the burgeoning industries in the state, according to Invest Selangor Bhd (Invest Selangor).

The state subsidiary said this on social media site X following a recent meeting with representatives from the High Commission of Canada in Malaysia and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia.

State executive councillor for investment and trade Ng Sze Han led the team from Invest Selangor, while the Canadian delegation was led by its high commissioner to Malaysia, Wayne Robson.

“We had the opportunity to share insights about the thriving industries in Selangor, such as aerospace, food security, cybersecurity, and biotech, which Canada is also well diverse in,” Invest Selangor said today.

“Valuable insights were exchanged, laying the groundwork for future partnerships.”

The meeting between both parties took place at the State Secretariat Building, here.

Invest Selangor said an agreement was also reached to enhance and leverage the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and make use of the recent meetings between the prime ministers of both nations at the recent Apec Leaders’ Summit.

In a separate posting, the state investment arm said Ng recently led a courtesy visit to Capital A’s AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines Bhd Engineering Services (Mabes), organised by Invest Selangor.

The Selangor delegation, which included Sungai Pelek assemblyman Lwi Kian Keong and Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek, explored the innovative operations of both companies.

In the visit to AirAsia, Invest Selangor said the two parties discussed the company’s diverse ventures beyond commercial airlines, such as logistics; maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO); digital; and food and beverages.

The delegation was also given a tour of AirAsia’s headquarters, RedQ, and met with group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes.

“Discussions touched on expansion plans and state initiatives supporting the industry,” it said.

They then visited Mabes, where they were given insights into the company’s A380s fleet servicing, making it one of just a few Malaysian MRO firms with this capability.
