SHAH ALAM, Dec 25 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin hope the celebration of festivals like Christmas will foster a sense of mutual respect among the different races in the country.
Their Royal Highnesses said this is crucial in maintaining peace, prosperity and harmony among the diverse ethnicities and religions in Malaysia.
“It is hoped that this (festive) season finds you among those you love, sharing the twin glories of generosity and gratitude.
“Take the time to reflect on the many blessings of your life and the privilege to be of service to others,” they said.
The royal couple said this in wishing a Merry Christmas to all Christians in the country who are celebrating the festival today.
The post was uploaded on the Selangor Royal Office’s Facebook page last night.
Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari also took to social media to extend his Christmas wishes to those celebrating the festival.
“I hope Christmas can be celebrated joyously and festively, accompanied by your families and friends,” he said today.
Yesterday, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Alhaj and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah similarly extended Christmas greetings to all Christians in Malaysia.
“May this celebration bring peace, prosperity, happiness and well-being to all members of the Christian community in Malaysia,” Their Majesties said.
Christmas is celebrated on December 25 each year.
