SHAH ALAM, Dec 9 — Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, has emphasised the significance of unity in the state and reiterated his strong disapproval of mosques being used for political purposes and as a platform to spread the propaganda of political parties.
In a statement on Facebook in conjunction with His Royal Highness’s upcoming 78th birthday, the Selangor Royal Office cited the Friday prayer’s sermon titled “Guardian of the Glory of Islam” (Penjaga Kemuliaan Islam) that highlighted the role of the Selangor Ruler as the Head of Islam in the state.
“His Royal Highness has always emphasised the significance of unity and brotherhood among Muslims in Selangor.
“The Selangor Ruler also had often expressed his strong disapproval of mosques being used as political arenas and platforms for party political propaganda, as mosques should remain free from political party influence,” the statement read, yesterday.
His Royal Highness is said to have expressed concerns regarding the unity among Muslims and preserving harmony in Selangor, which were voiced out through the sermons delivered at the mosques.
The statemed said the Selangor Ruler is also committed to upholding Islamic values, addressing challenges that undermined the sanctity of Islam, and ensuring Muslims continue to strengthen unity.
“All of these measures have been implemented with careful thought, equality and fairness to the people.”
Sultan Sharafuddin will celebrate his 78th birthday on December 11 (Monday).
