SHAH ALAM, Dec 19  — The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for the entirety of the Klang Valley region, which is expected to persist until 6pm.

It covers all nine districts in Selangor, as well as the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

The national weather agency also predicted similar weather patterns in many other parts of the country.

They include eight districts in Perak, three each in Kelantan and Terengganu, five in Pahang, six in Negeri Sembilan, two in Melaka, one in Johor and eight in Sarawak.

The notice was issued by the agency on its social media accounts around 3.30pm today.

Thunderstorm warnings are issued when there are clear signs that indicate thunderstorms with rain intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that occur or are expected to occur.

It is a short period warning that does not exceed 6 hours for a single issue. Weather conditions that are expected to worsen and exceed 6 hours can be upgraded to the continuous rain warning category.
