Tsunami siren to blare in Klang tomorrow as MetMalaysia conducts test

By Selangor Journal Team

SHAH ALAM, Dec 6 — If you reside in Klang and happen to hear a warning siren tomorrow, do not panic.

This is because the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) will be conducting a test on its Tsunami Early Warning System (SAATNM) siren, which is expected to take place between 10am and 12pm.

In a brief notice uploaded on social media site X, it said the test will be done at the Port Klang police station.

“Residents in the surrounding areas are advised not to panic by the siren sound as this is only a test,” it said today.

MetMalaysia said it would inform the public should there be any changes to the plan.

SAATNM is a system under the management of the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry that provides effective early warning to the public in the event of a potential tsunami.

It identifies earthquakes in the region before issuing a notice and warning if there is a possibility of a tsunami hitting the country.
