Local authorities ordered to synchronise Smart Selangor Bus, DRT services

By Siti Rohaizah Zainal

SUBANG JAYA, Jan 13 — The state government has instructed the local authorities to review the Smart Selangor Bus routes to enhance public transportation quality.

State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said the study is necessary to effectively align it with the demand-responsive transit (DRT) van service.

“This will ensure we can optimise every ringgit allocated for the existing routes with DRT. The local authorities will propose suitable locations for buses and DRT.

“We want both services to benefit all residents in each area, especially for transit to light rail transit (LRT) stations,” he said.

Ng was speaking to the press during the Pledge and Plant A Tree (Papat) tree planting programme in BK 3/1 Bandar Kinrara today.

He added the DRT service zones will also be expanded this year, especially in Shah Alam for Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) students.

“The response thus far has been very encouraging. In Puchong, we are expanding in several areas, and the number of users has increased from 800 to almost 1,500 individuals,” Ng said.

Last year, the councillor said the Smart Selangor Bus routes were reviewed to align with the Transport Ministry’s plans to improve Klang Valley’s public transportation quality.

The review also included using DRT to replace Smart Selangor Buses in densely populated areas and narrow routes in the future.

He said the study of Smart Selangor Bus routes also encompasses improvements to the first and last-mile connectivity ecosystem, comfortable pedestrian pathways, and micro-mobility options, including e-scooters and electric bicycles.
