MBI allocates RM1 mln for welfare, to help disaster victims

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 6 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, has allocated RM1 million in disaster relief this year.

Its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Corporate Communication head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the state aid covers floods, landslides, storms, fires and road accidents.

“This aid is not limited to disasters such as floods. MBI also aims to help victims of road accidents, especially those who are without adequate means.

“We have also received applications from the community service centres for various forms of disaster assistance,” he said when met at the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) Wanita East Coast Post-Flood Mission here, yesterday.

Previously, Ahmad Azri had told MBI to allocate RM1 million to ensure the success of the food basket donation initiative, especially during the festive season.

In addition to disaster relief, MBI also spends heavily on the education sector, community outreach programmes, mosques, suraus and incentives for pilgrims.

Earlier, the Keadilan Wanita leader, who is also the Minister of Education Fadhlina Sidek completed the release ceremony involving various types of essential goods amounting to more than RM300,000.

Necessary items including hygiene kits, baby items such as disposable diapers, infant milk bottles, sanitary napkins, clothes, telekung, mats and food baskets will be donated to flood evacuees in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.
