SHAH ALAM, Jan 14 — The Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) seized and towed vehicles abandoned in the residential, business and industrial areas of the district.

Hulu Selangor Municipal Council chief Mohd Hasry Nor Mohd said it was to prevent the vehicle from becoming a breeding ground for infectious diseases or pests on top of becoming an eyesore.

“A total of 65 vehicles, 85 per cent of which were located in the residential, business and industrial areas of this district, was delayed last year.

“Based on records, of the 65 warning notices issued to vehicle owners, almost 85 per cent failed to be delivered,” said Mohd Hasry.

He added that before the delay was implemented, MPHS first sent a reminder notice upon receiving detailed information from the Road Transport Department.

“Further checks at registered financial institutions and the police were also carried out by MPHS to ensure whether the vehicles involved were involved with loan records and criminal cases.

“If there is no claim from any party after the notice period has expired, MPHS will publish an advertisement containing the list of vehicles in question on the mass media and the department’s official website.”

Mohd Hasry added that the vehicle owner was given 14 days from the date the advertisement was published to reclaim the vehicle by bringing a copy of the identity card, vehicle title grant and explaining all the costs set by MPHS when making a claim.

“If there is no response, the vehicle will be disposed of in accordance with the provisions of Section 116 of the Roads, Drains and Buildings Act 1974.

“For abandoned vehicles or bad cars, action can be taken under Section 46(1)(e), Roads, Drains and Buildings Act 1974 which is causing public obstruction.”
