GOMBAK, Jan 29 — The Selangor government has paid out RM988,000 in compensation claims under the Selangor General Insurance Scheme (Insan) since its introduction in 2022.

Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Communication head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the amount involves 91 claims for various accident and death cases.

He said the state government agency received 166 claims, but 57 cases were rejected for failing to meet certain requirements, such as having no vehicle licence and other reasons.

“We continue to encourage the people of Selangor to sign up for the Insan Takaful scheme as it is still open for registration to all.

“Those who have completed their conventional policies can still register for the Insan Takaful scheme,” he said to Selangorkini when met at the Gombak Parliament Hari Prihatin Rakyat event at Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Melayu Wira Damai, here yesterday.

The Insan programme is a state government initiative that began in October 2022 and provides general insurance protection to six million eligible Selangor residents aged 30 days to 80 years, with the government of Selangor bearing the total cost of premiums.

The scheme provides protection of up to RM10,000 for permanent disability and death due to accidents.

In August last year, the initiative was improved to include the Insan Takaful scheme, providing protection of up to RM10,000, while next-of-kins receive RM1,000 in the event of death.
