Number of flood victims in four states drops to 3,002 as at 8pm — Nadma

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 — The number of flood victims in Terengganu, Kelantan, Pahang and Johor at 37 temporary relief centres has dropped to 3,022 people tonight compared with 3,432 this evening.

According to the latest report from the National Disaster Control Centre of the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), Terengganu still has the highest number with 1,823 people taking shelter at 22 relief centres in four districts.

Eight relief centres are in Besut 458 evacuees, seven are in Dungun with 1,017 evacuees, four in Setiu with 87 evacuees and three in Hulu Terengganu with 261 evacuees.

In Kelantan, 11 relief centres are operating in three districts, six of which are in Tanah Merah with 325 evacuees, four in Kuala Krai with 182 evacuees and one in Pasir Puteh with 28 evacuees.

As for the situation in Pahang, 468 evacuees are at a relief centre in Kuantan district  while another nine victims are at a relief centre in Rompin.

In Johor, two relief centres are still operating, one in Mersing district with 167 victims and another in Kota Tinggi, but as of 8pm today there are no more victims left here, as the flood situation in the district has improved.

The Drainage and Irrigation Department Telemetery Station shows that several rivers are at the danger level in Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Pahang, Perlis, Sabah, Selangor and Terengganu.

The rivers involved include Sungai Johor in Kota Tinggi district; Sungai Kedah in Kota Setar (Kedah); Sungai Golok in Pasir Mas (Kelantan); Sungai Rompin (Pahang); Sungai Arau (Perlis); Sungai Kinabatangan (Sabah); Sungai Klang in Petaling (Selangor) and Sungai Dungun (Terengganu).

Nadma also reported the closure of 38 roads due to floods, damaged bridges, collapsed roads and slopes, including Jalan Durian Mentangau in Dungun, Terengganu; Jalan Sungai Lembing in Kuantan, Pahang; and Jalan Johor Bahru-Endau in Kota Tinggi, Johor.
