Selangor to set up consultation committee to improve local council services

By Norrasyidah Arshad

SHAH ALAM, Jan 5 — A special consultation committee will be established this year to further improve the services of local authorities in Selangor, said state executive councillor for local government Dato’ Ng Suee Lim.

He said the committee, which will comprise former presidents of local authorities, department directors and non-governmental organisations representatives, will advise on measures to refine the councils’ service delivery.

“This is to ensure local councils provide excellent services to the public,” he said when contacted.

Ng said while a recent survey by research firm Merdeka Centre found that about 50 per cent of Malaysians are satisfied with the services currently provided by local authorities, Selangor is aiming for improvement.

“This committee will seek the best methods for all matters concerning the community, including standardising the system for applications.

On a separate matter, Ng reiterated that the official declaration of Klang as a royal city will be made on February 5.

Previously, Ng had told Selangor Journal that the decision was made after royal assent was granted by the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.

“The approval letter from His Royal Highness stated that Klang would become a city on November 23, 2023.

“Both the Cabinet has confirmed this endorsement and following the issuance of the royal charter from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah,” he had said on Wednesday.

In anticipation of Klang’s upcoming change to city status, Klang Municipal Council president Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan has been appointed as its first mayor.

The appointment, announced on MPK’s Facebook page November 2, saw Selangor State Secretary Datuk Haris Kasim present her with the appointment letter, witnessed by Deputy State Secretary (Development) Datuk Johary Anuar, at the Selangor State Secretariat Building.
