State’s mega road paving, LED lights installation projects to continue

By Siti Rohaizah Zainal

KLANG, Jan 10 — The large-scale road paving works carried out in all nine districts across the state last year will continue to be implemented, said state executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim.

According to him, another project benefiting the people of Selangor that will be carried out this year involves the installation of light-emitting diode (LED) street lamps.

“However, these initiatives will involve a smaller allocation this year. For instance, the road paving works, which cost RM50 million (last year), will be reduced to maybe around RM20 million.

“These programmes are crucial and need continuation for the benefit of all citizens. I will update the allocation for these two projects in the near future,” he said after distributing fishing equipment and food baskets to fishermen from five districts under the Agropreneur Development Programme at Jeti Sungai Sireh, here, yesterday.

Izham said the implementation of the two projects this time will also involve engagements with state assemblymen and local councillors of the respective areas to ensure proper execution.

“Previously, these projects only involved the local authorities. Now, I request the cooperation of assemblymen and councillors to avoid oversight or repetition. We want to avoid such situations,” he said.

The mega road repair project under Infrasel Sdn Bhd (Infrasel) last year involved 66 roads in the Petaling district, followed by Klang (39), Gombak (29), Hulu Langat (27), Sepang (19), Sabak Bernam (17), Kuala Langat (16), Kuala Selangor (11) and Hulu Selangor (eight).

Previously, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the large-scale project with an allocation of RM50 million is aimed at ensuring optimal condition of the state’s roads for the safety of users.

He added that the selection of roads for maintenance was determined based on the highest number of public complaints received through Twitter or Infrasel’s mobile application.
