GOMBAK, Jan 18 — Two new faces were among the 22 individuals appointed as members of the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) after they took their oath of office for the 2024-2025 term today.

MPS president Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi said there are still two vacant spots to be filled, pending a final decision by the state government.

According to Yazid, the 22 appointed councillor comprise a member of Selangor’s Council of the Royal Court, Orang Besar Daerah Gombak Tan Sri Wan Mahmood Pa’wan Teh, as well as 12 from Parti Keadilan Rakyat, five from DAP and four from Amanah.

The two new councillors are from Amanah, he added.

“It is my hope that the councillors act as a bridge between the community and the state government and MPS in addressing issues raised by residents,” he said after witnessing the swearing in ceremony at Menara MPS, here, today.

Meanwhile, DAP’s council chief whip U Chin Ong said his primary focus is to address the issue of waste disposal and refurbish existing multipurpose halls and playgrounds in Selayang.

“We will cooperate with KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) to allocate 100 new compactor trucks in Selayang, including in areas under the Ampang Jaya municipality, to resolve this issue of wastes,” he said.

U also urged all appointed councillors to work hard and provide the best service to the public, to ensure the development of Selayang.

“This is especially vital to convince voters who have supported Pakatan Harapan (Harapan).

“I am confident councillors representing the Harapan-Barisan Nasional coalition can work together to provide the best service,” he said, adding that DAP and Keadilan have agreed to give up one councillor seat each to Umno.

Amanah’s council chief whip K. Thanabal said his main priority is to address the issue of damaged roads in Selayang.

“There are seven roads currently being used by heavy vehicles involved in quarry projects in Selayang. I will strive to resolve this issue,” the three-term Ampang Jaya Municipal Council member said.
