Empower skills in digital economy, exco tells entrepreneurs

By Yasmin Ramlan

SHAH ALAM, Feb 22 — In today’s fast-paced e-commerce landscape, state executive councillor for entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi has stressed the importance for entrepreneurs to equip themselves with skills and knowledge in the digital economy.

He said programmes like the Malaysia Top E-Commerce Merchant (ECM) Awards, in particular, are crucial in helping to produce successful entrepreneurs.

This is as the initiative, which is organised by the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec), challenges industry players to go above and beyond to ensure the success of their businesses by giving recognition to some of the best merchants in the country.

“Programmes like this play a pivotal role in this endeavour, serving as an invaluable platform to equip our workforce with the necessary capabilities.

“By participating in such initiatives, our entrepreneurs can ensure their readiness for the future and adaptability to the rapidly changing digital landscape,” he said in his speech at the Top ECM Awards 2024 launch ceremony at Selangor Sandbox, here, today.

Najwan said the state government has also implemented various developmental initiatives to support the robust digital landscape.

“The state is keenly aware of the significance of boosting the e-commerce sector.

“We have implemented various initiatives aimed at supporting digital trade, fostering an environment conducive to growth and sustainability,” he said.

The Top ECM Awards is a prestigious accolade that was introduced in 2015. Affin Bank Bhd has been the main sponsor of the awards.

This year’s edition is open for entries from February 1-29, with judging to take place from March 18-31. The main awards ceremony will be held in May.

Several categories will be up for contention, including the Main Category, Selangor Category, Affin Bank (Special Category), Lazada (Special Category), and the prestigious Affin Bank Special Award.
