MB: Stadium demolition using conventional means, to take at least six months

By Suhaila Shahrul Annuar

SABAK BERNAM, Feb 13 — The Shah Alam Stadium demolition process is expected to take six to seven months as it uses conventional methods without explosives.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said even though it may take some time, the method is safer and does not affect residents in Section 13.

“It will take a minimum of six to seven months for demolition to be completed because it is done manually. We took into consideration the best solution, of course, we can bomb and demolish the structure in a matter of moments, but that would have an impact (on the residents).

“We will first complete the demolition phase. If we can finish it this year, by the end of 2024, we can sign on for the second phase,” he said, when met here today.

Previously, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, announced that the Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) development involving three phases is expected to be fully completed by 2029.

Its Special Projects Unit general manager Datuk Ruslan Abdul Aziz said that the first phase, involving the demolition and reconstruction of the Shah Alam Stadium, is set to begin this month and is expected to be completed by December 2026.

He said the second phase will begin in January 2027, involving a covered theatre, sports and youth wings, and a recreational area.

The final phase of the construction, which includes an integrated terminal and hotel, is expected to commence between January 2028 and December 2029.
