Selangor govt banking on social media, influencers to help spread info on state initiatives

By Yasmin Ramlan

KUALA SELANGOR, Feb 25 — The Selangor government is going the extra mile in engaging with the public to better disseminate information regarding state programmes.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this will be done via social media and through influencers, acknowledging that one of the administration’s biggest challenges presently is the limited engagement between its leaders and the rakyat.

He said this mainly concerns the 70 to 75 per cent urban population in Selangor.

“We do acknowledge the presence of challenges in Selangor. What we’re encountering presently poses a significant hurdle.

“But regardless of the difficulty, engagement is crucial, and we must address it by utilising social media,” he said during a dialogue session at the Central Zone Madani Rakyat programme’s closing ceremony at the Kuala Selangor Sports Complex, here today.

Commenting further, Amirudin noted that the state government has implemented over 40 initiatives catering to all walks of life, from newborns to the deceased.

“It is quite limiting to just reach out to the public (in person) to ensure they have a detailed understanding (of our programmes).

“Hence, we aim to utilise influencers to promote our initiatives, with the expectation of attracting the appropriate target audience and fostering effective communication between the state government and the public,” he said.

Amirudin was responding to a question from the public pertaining to some of the biggest challenges currently faced by the six-month-old administration.

Other than Amirudin, the audience at the dialogue session was also given the opportunity to pose questions to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

Among others present were state executives councillors and heads of the respective state agencies.
