SHAH ALAM, Feb 9 — The Selangor International Halal Conference (Selhac) 2024 is scheduled for October and is anticipated to strengthen the halal industry’s development and supply chain.

The event, organised by Halal International Selangor (HIS Toyibba Sdn Bhd), is set to take place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, with 200 local and international exhibitors expected to participate.

Its acting chief executive officer, Muhammad Syaril Showkat Ali, said that the conference will centre around three key themes, namely halal certification, logistics, and digital innovation.

“The three themes are based on the current needs and challenges in the industry, emphasising the empowerment and significance of these aspects.

“The halal industry’s supply chain includes industries other than food, such as logistics and services,” he told SelangorKini when contacted.

Meanwhile, Syaril said HIS Toyyiba Sdn Bhd will establish strategic cooperation with Tanzania on halal industry development, which includes supply chain and tourism.

“Tanzania currently lacks a certification body recognised by the Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim), so we aim to bridge this gap,” he added.

Selhac was first held in March 2022 and a transaction value of RM37.73 million, surpassing the initial estimate of RM20 million. This figure continued to rise to RM57.4 million last year.

The halal conference serves as a significant platform for the halal industry in Asean and Malaysia to expand their marketing networks.
