Selangor Sultan consents to appointment of 31 members of religious institutions

SHAH ALAM, Feb 23 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has consented to the appointment of 31 individuals as members of various Islamic Institutions in the state for the 2024-2026 term.

The appointment ceremony and conferment of appointment letters were held at Istana Kayangan today, attended by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and state executive councillor for Islam Dr Fahmi Ngah.

Of the total, four were appointed as members of the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais).

They include Selangor State Secretary Datuk Haris Kasim, Worldwide Holdings Malaysia chief executive officer Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakari, and associate professors Khadijah Mohd Khambali@Hambali and Datuk Mohd Farid Ravi Abdullah.

These appointments bring the total number of Mais members to 22. Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof currently serves as the council chairman.

His Royal Highness also consented to appoint Selangor Mufti Datuk Setia Anhar Opir and his deputy Datuk Miszairi Sitiris as members of the State Fatwa Committee, along with 12 other individuals.

In the ceremony, Sultan Sharafuddin also handed over appointment letters to 11 members of the Selangor Zakat Board’s trustee board, selecting Tan Sri Syed Anwar Jamalullail as its chairman, with Tan Sri Ambrin Buang as his deputy.

His Royal Highness appointed Datuk Mohd Shukor Shabudin as a permanent panel member of the Shariah Court of Appeal and Mohd Zakian Dio as a judge of the state’s Shariah High Court.
