Hamas says proposal for Gaza ceasefire realistic

TEHRAN, March 17 — A senior Hamas official has underscored that the Palestinian resistance movement’s proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is pragmatic and applicable, Iranian News Agency (IRNA) reported.

Senior Hamas leader based in Beirut, Lebanon, Osama Hamdan said that throughout indirect talks with the Zionist regime, Hamas called for the cessation of war, return of refugees, rescue efforts and initiation of reconstruction of Gaza.

Hamdan said the recently proposed plan for a truce, which Hamas offered, is completely realistic and the enemy cannot rule it out.

He added that the movement suggested specified details regarding prisoners of war and the withdrawal of occupying forces from the Gaza Strip as part of the plan.

He pointed to the fact that Hamas is still waiting for a response from the Israeli regime and its main supporter (the US), noting that “we are witnessing gaps and differences” among the cabinet members of the regime.

The Hamas official said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is well aware of the kind of blows that Gaza has inflicted upon the regime’s army, and stipulated that the Israeli regime has not achieved any of its declared objectives in the Gaza war.

He added that Hamas officials have insisted on avoiding the continuation of the war on Gaza in all contacts with international mediators.

More than 31,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 7, when the Israeli regime launched a genocidal war on Gaza after a surprise operation by the Palestinian resistance groups against the occupying entity.
