HULU LANGAT, March 17 — Over 60 Orang Asli families from the Kampung Orang Asli Broga, Semenyih here received food basket donations in conjunction with the Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) Zone 22 local councillor Mohd Zulkifli Ridzwan said items include basic necessities like rice, cooking oil, ketchup, flour, sugar, sardine, kurma, coffee and kuih raya donated by various parties.

He said the CommUnity: Harvest of Hope corporate social responsibility programme is held in cooperation with Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia Faculty of Business, Accounting, and Social Sciences’ Diploma in Corporate Communications students and the Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa).

“Other activities included a breaking fast ceremony, preparing bubur lambuk (rice porridge), and a colouring competition for children,” he said after the donation ceremony yesterday.

Meanwhile, Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia’s Faculty of Business, Accounting, and Social Sciences programme coordinator Aida Suhana Abdul Hamid said the programme has provided exposure to the students pertaining to community activities and corporate social responsibility, as well as the Orang Asli culture.

Kampung Orang Asli Broga village head Ilan Johns said the food basket donations would help reduce the burden of villagers, particularly ahead of the Hari Raya festival.

“It’s been quite a while since a programme like this has been conducted in this village. I hope we can see more in the future, subsequently strengthening the relationship between the community and Orang Asli.”
