Mais channels RM10.9 mln to 27 riqab rehabilitation homes in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, March 29 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) today distributed contributions totalling RM10.9 million to 27 Riqab Rehabilitation Homes (RPR) under the riqab rehabilitation relief grant to ensure the welfare of the asnaf riqab group is protected, particularly in Selangor.

Mais secretary Dr Ahmad Shahir Makhtar said the money would be used to cover the cost of the programme, management and care of the asnaf riqab at RPRs under the council’s purview for this year.

The homes that received the contributions included Rumah Teduhan Kasih; Rumah Puteri Arafiah; Rumah Penawar Alam Jaya; Rumah Perlindungan dan Bimbingan Wanita Bayt Rahmah and Rumah Bimbingan Remaja Puteri Raudhatus Sakinah.

“Mais also contributed RM357,000 to 1,190 asnaf riqab in the state to help them make early preparations for the upcoming Aidilfitri celebrations.

“The donations, which come from the zakat (tithe) for asnaf riqab, are to help asnaf riqab who need rehabilitation, protection, treatment, prevention and monitoring to encourage them to return to society,” he told reporters at the RPR 2024 Tadarus and Iftar ceremony today.

Ahmad Shahir said Mais hoped that the support provided could be utilised in the best possible way by home operators to help them fulfil their social responsibilities and ensure that the asnaf riqab receive protection, rehabilitation and proper care.

In his speech, Mais chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof thanked all the riqab home operators for their outstanding commitment in helping Mais to provide the best service to the riqab asnaf in Selangor, especially in terms of treatment, rehabilitation and protection.

He expressed his hope that with the handing over of the donation, the process of counselling, rehabilitation and education for riqab asnaf can be improved in the future.
