PETALING JAYA, March 9 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI has allocated RM4 million for the Ihya Ramadan programme this year.
Its corporate social responsibility head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the allocation includes contributions to mosques, suraus, asnaf (tithe recipients), and to organise iftar events.
“We will tour all (of Selangor’s) districts and distribute these contributions throughout Ramadan. This evening, we are heading to Gombak for the handover to mosques and suraus in that district.
“We also organise other programmes, including iftar gatherings with Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and distributing iftar meals at several locations,” he said.
Azri was speaking at MBI’s pre-Ramadan food basket distribution programme for the residents of Pangsapuri Idaman at Damansara Damai today.
During the event, he handed over a RM5,000 donation to the non-governmental organisation (NGO) Persatuan Komuniti Madani Damansara Damai as funds for various activities.
Azri also presented a laptop to Mohamad Adib Haikal Nor Affendi, 14, who is considered an unsung hero for rescuing the victims of a fire at the apartment complex on February 12.
The secondary school student risked his life to save six siblings, who were almost killed in the fire at a unit in Block Q.
It is understood the fire occurred when the parents of four daughters and two sons, aged two to 11, were not at home.
Adib, a neighbor, saw smoke coming from the house before contacting the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department to report the incident.
