SHAH ALAM, March 13 — A single mother struggling to make ends meet finally has something to smile about after being gifted a car, courtesy of Kinrara state assemblyman Ng Sze Han.
In a Facebook post, he expressed hope the used Proton Saga, which was contributed by online used car trading platform Carsome, will help ‘Nora’ better carry out her daily life.
Ng and his team met with the mother-of-three in 2020 during his annual Jelajah Kasih Ramadan tour around Kinrara to provide assistance and distribute aid to those in need.
At the time, Nora, who was working in a restaurant, only had a motorcycle to travel to work, send and pick up her children from school, and conduct other daily activities.
“We decided to help Nora get her driving licence so she can work part-time as a Grab or delivery driver. I challenged her that if she could obtain her licence, I would try to get her a car.
“Nora finally got her licence last year. I then endeavoured to get several quarters to contribute a second-hand car. Thank God, at the end of last year, the vehicle from Carsome was delivered to Kinrara for Nora.
“Nora even told me that while waiting for the car, she sometimes had to brace the heavy rain to send her children to school and that they kept asking her when the car would be delivered,” he said.
In an accompanying video, Ng was seen personally delivering the vehicle to Nora at his community service centre.
A portion of the clip also showed his wife Lim Bee Eng guiding Nora on operating the car.
Meanwhile, the assemblyman said his office would continue the tradition of visiting and assisting poor families in Kinrara throughout the Ramadan fasting month.
