Shah Alam PKNS Complex to be demolished? Absolutely false

By Selangor Journal Team

SHAH ALAM, March 18 — The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) has rubbished claims that its 47-year-old PKNS Complex here will be demolished for redevelopment.

In a statement, the state agency expressed deep regret over the dissemination of the baseless allegation, which it described as completely untrue.

It added that reports will be lodged to the police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission soon over the spread of the fake news.

“PKNS would like to stress that there are no plans to demolish the complex. The 47-year-old building is one of Shah Alam’s landmarks and plays a crucial role in providing business services and facilities to residents nearby,” it said today.

A user on social media site X recently claimed that several plots of land in Shah Alam’s urban centre, including the PKNS Complex and SACC Mall, would be demolished to make way for a new project, prompting online frenzy. The post has since been deleted.

Several media outlets have also published reports claiming likewise.

PKNS clarified today that the planned project within its development area in the town centre of Seksyen 14 is part of its urban rejuvenation efforts in Shah Alam, which is expected to commence in the third quarter of this year.

“The project, which is estimated to cost RM2 billion, will involve several plots of land in Seksyen 14, including SACC Mall and SACC Convention Centre. From the beginning, this project has never involved the PKNS Complex building.

“Instead, the area will be upgraded to provide better and more comfortable facilities, besides offering an overall more satisfactory experience to visitors and the local community.”

PKNS said the rejuvenation project is also in line with its efforts to make Shah Alam a carbon-neutral city with upgraded buildings that utilise green energy and a ‘centralised chill water’ system.

“This initiative aligns with our commitment to contribute to sustainable urban development and the overall socioeconomic advancement of Selangor.

“Throughout this upgrading process, business operations at PKNS Complex will continue as usual, and visitors will be free to make purchases.”
