State your stand on Hadi’s insolence towards royals, Selangor PN told

SHAH ALAM, March 1 — Selangor Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) is demanding state Perikatan Nasional (PN) to declare its position on the recent display of insolence by Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang towards the Malay Rulers.

In a statement, Selangor Keadilan deputy chairman Borhan Aman Shah questioned if the opposition coalition will disobey the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj merely to maintain their relationship with the Islamist party.

This is after His Royal Highness issued a stern rebuke against Hadi, via letter sent on February 27, for his uncouth comments disrespecting the Malay Rulers over the recent Federal Court’s decision to declare several Kelantan Syariah laws unconstitutional.

“The letter clearly mentioned the Sultan of Selangor’s regret over the statement by the PAS president, which was made without fully understanding His Royal Highness’ speech (on the issue).”

“As such, Selangor Keadilan leadership council would like to know the stand of Selangor PN led by Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, over Hadi’s rudeness which has angered the Sultan.

“Is Selangor PN deliberately willing to defy the Sultan of Selangor’s decree solely to appease PAS leaders and supporters?” he said.

Borhan further noted that Selangor PN has a history of keeping silent when the state Ruler is being attacked, including in the case of Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor in July last year.

Then, Sanusi had questioned Sultan Sharafuddin’s credibility for appointing Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari as Menteri Besar, something the PAS leader said the Sultan of Kedah would not do.

“Selangor Keadilan will continue to support efforts to enhance unity and condemn any statements that insult the Malay rulers, which can cause division among Muslims in the country,” Borhan said.

“Islam cannot be exploited and tainted for political interests, that is our stance.”

Yesterday, the Selangor Royal Office released to the public the letter that was issued to Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Abdul Halim Tamuri expressing Sultan Sharafuddin’s disappointment and anger over Hadi’s recent uncouth comments pertaining to the Rulers.

His Royal Highness had said that Hadi’s statement was extremely inappropriate and uncivilised, and had disrespected and insulted the Malay Rulers.

He also warned Hadi to be more mindful in the future when issuing any statements that can sow discord among the Muslims in the country.

Hadi, in a social media post on February 20, had among other things reminded the Malay Rulers, MPs, state assemblymen, judges, and lawyers not to be too engulfed in worldly interests but to also focus on the afterlife, after the Apex Court’s decision on the Kelantan Syariah law.
