Elderly man dies, brother survives Klang house fire

SHAH ALAM, April 10 — An elderly man tragically lost his life while his brother managed to survive a fire that engulfed a Class C residence along Jalan Kereta Api Lama, Batu 9, Klang, last night.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received the distress call at 10.26pm.

Following the fire’s full containment by 11.23pm, firefighters found the remains of a 79-year-old man beneath a stack of wood at the site.

“After the fire was fully extinguished, the estimated damage amounted to around 90 per cent. Fortunately, one elderly man was rescued unharmed by members of the public,” he said in a statement today.

Mukhlis said the fire was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes with 15 personnel and fire engines from the Kapar, Sungai Pinang, and Kota Raja Fire and Rescue Stations.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
